FAR NOOK - Your Midlife Decision-Making Compass (PDF, 5 pages)

Introducing FAR NOOK - a Wholist tool to help you make clear, calm, aligned decisions (especially when you're overwhelmed, tired, hungry, frustrated, or second-guessing yourself).

Midlife is FULL of micro-decisions:

  • What to eat
  • Whether to move
  • How to respond
  • What to prioritize
  • How to care for YOU

FAR NOOK gives you a quick structure so you don't default to old habits or let stress run the show.

The Compass

F - Facts

What is actually happening? Strip the story. Identify the situation.

A - Awareness

What am I noticing in my body and mind? Tension? Hunger? Stress? Fatigue? Overthinking?

R - Reason

What makes sense here? Not perfect - just reasonable, grounded, doable.

N - Nervous System

Am I activated or calm? If you're revved up, pause before taking action.

O - Options

What choices do I have? There are always at least 2-3 options. Name them.

O - Obstacles

What could get in the way? Pre-name them and reduce their power.

K - Key Step

What's the next TINY action? Not the whole plan - just the next 30 seconds.

Why It Works

  • It interrupts knee-jerk reactions.
  • It brings you back into your thinking brain.
  • It reduces overwhelm.
  • And it roots your decisions in your values - not stress, guilt, or urgency.
